Steven Bernstein, partner and chief litigation officer at The Injury Counsel

Steven Bernstein

Partner & Chief Litigation Officer

Steven leads the firm’s litigation: once a case becomes a lawsuit, he runs it through discovery, depositions, mediation and trial. He has been licensed to practice law since 1991.

As chief litigation officer, Steven is responsible for the part of a case that happens in court. He prepares and files the petition, handles written discovery, takes and defends depositions, works with expert witnesses on their reports and testimony, argues motions, and prepares each case as if it will be tried to a jury.

He works alongside David Gregory, who leads the firm’s investigations. The witness statements, records and expert findings gathered in the first weeks after an injury are what Steven builds the lawsuit on, so the two of them decide early what the evidence needs to show and how it will be presented if the case goes to trial.

Steven handles cases in each of the firm’s practice areas: car accidents, trucking accidents, motorcycle accidents, wrongful death, and civil claims brought by survivors of sexual assault.

He was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1991 and to the Missouri bar in 2007. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Juris Doctor from Chicago-Kent College of Law.
